Why I'm Going Social Media *Optional*

The exodus from the dizzying drug that is has been social media is real.

I've been watching it happen for many, many months. People are FED UP. People are leaving social media altogether (or at the very least, taking a reallllly long hiatus). And I gotta be honest, I'm one of those fed up people. I feel like we're just kinda, done with the constant hoop jumping & plate spinning, y'know? It just ain't what it used to be, in many ways.

I'm not leaving social media altogether, because I actually still love IG stories and consider stories a priority for connections & sales (& I like hanging out there). I post on the feed when I get time or feel inspired to (but, it's not a priority for me in terms of ROI).

I'm starting to experiment more with Threads. It's quick, easy, and once you get your algo working in your favour - I find it's a vibe to hang out there (& a brilliant place to gather intel on what your clients are thinking & saying - if they hang out there too). But the BIGGEST change I'm making is wayyyyy overdue.

Here's what I'm Prioritising:

a) SEO & blogging

b) more podcasts & Pinterest

To be completely honest…I've never taken SEO or blogging as seriously as I am now. I (like most of the entrepreneur world) have been under the shiny ass spell of social media for a long time. and truth be told, in all my unofficial research, it's nothing like it used to be (in terms of reach & visibility).

Thankfully I've always had a couple of top tier social media optional strategies in place, working hard for me.

My top tier 'social media optional' strategies:

a) building an email list, which has saved my ass a number of times over the years, and proved to be one of the BEST connection & conversion strategies ever

b) and prioritising website copy that has a ridiculously funny personality + strong sales focused strategy

(both of these I will continue to do probs forever) (duh)

Now, OBVIOUSLY, I want you to take 'what's working for me' as exactly that - what's working for ME. And FYI, I base what's working for me on:

a) ROI (time and money)

b) if I enjoy being there

c) if my audience is there

d) the longevity potential of the content

For YOU, leaving social media might be crazy talk because it's your biggest source of leads, so it sits at the tippy top of your marketing strategy. If that's the case? You go Glen Coco.

But please, for the love of all that is HOLY, do NOT make socials your entire marketing & sales strategy. You've heard it approx. one trillion times before ('coz it's true)…it's borrowed land, but also?

Yes, it can be the excellent for building real connections with your community (& landing clients)but if your business isn't a short term gig - I'm begging you to expand past the short term marketing on platforms that have a 24-48hr lifespan for content.

Long term, slow burn visibility strategies? I gotchu.

  • Personality + strategy driven website copy

  • Strategic blogging / guest blogging

  • Pinterest

  • SEO

  • Networking (for building relationships IRL or online)

  • Podcasting / guest podcasting

  • Email marketing

And, if you want to step of the short-lifespan-content-hamster-wheel, and have a social media optional business - your website is the BEST place to start. Why?

SEO is key, of course, butttt what happens once you get all that traffic there? Or even if you're sending people there from social media? Or email? Or (gasp) real life???

Your website's literal job is to connect & convert those people (not just look pretty, lol). And website copy is literally the WORDS THAT SELL YOUR STUFF. 24/7. (yes, even when ur sleeping or stacking the dishwasher or walking the dog)

So, imagine…

...being able to spend less time worrying about the dismal reach on your latest reel, ‘coz you’re abso-freaking-lutely confident that your website is working it's ass off for you while you're out there living your literal life? Dreamy right? Well, wake up and make it reality!

Here’s how I can help you replace that hamster wheel with a good book & a blanket (screw the dishwasher):
